Gallery Visitor Safety Policies

We look forward to welcoming you to Rembrandt: The Sign and the Light. This exhibition features 59 etchings, offering a variety of subjects detailing panorama of Rembrandt’s etching activity over his 35-year career. Some of these include religious figures and scenes, genre scenes, portraits, figure studies and the famous beggars.

A review of our visitor safety guidelines and regulations below can help orient you before you arrive and ensure you get the most out of your Rembrandt experience.

We are reopening the Gallery Sept. 11 and want you to know that the safety of our students, faculty, staff and visitors is paramount. Please be assured that Methodist University and the David McCune International Art Gallery are following the guidelines issued by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and the governor of the state of North Carolina for increased health and safety procedures.

We have also implemented staff health checks and established a more frequent cleaning routine that includes a building-wide cleaning schedule; enhanced cleaning of high-touch surfaces throughout the day; and the installation of hand-sanitizing stations at the entrance and exit of the Gallery. Methodist University and the Gallery will continue to monitor and abide by federal, state and city guidelines to inform our operations.

The Gallery staff workers are required to wear masks and gloves and wash hands between groups. A Plexiglas barrier will be placed at the front desk for added protection.

By visiting the Gallery, you agree to abide by these policies. Please make sure to plan ahead for your visit.

To ensure that we are providing a safe environment for all, the Gallery has the following protocols in place:

  • Face coverings are required for all visitors over the age of 2. CDC guidelines advise that face coverings should:
    • Reach above the nose, below the chin and completely cover the mouth and nostrils
    • Fit snugly against the sides of the face
  • Physical distancing is required; visitors should stay at least 6 feet (about two arms’ length) from others.
  • Follow the physical-distancing markers at the visitor entry and exit points as well as in locations throughout the Gallery.
  • Please do not touch the artwork, frames, bases, labels or anything used to protect the art.
  • Visitor capacity is controlled and reduced to 5 people at a time
  • Help prevent the spread of germs by washing your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds and by not touching your eyes, nose and mouth.
  • Hand sanitizer stations will be available at entrance and exit of the Gallery.
  • Please cover your cough while in the Gallery.
  • Stay home if you are showing any symptoms of being sick. For more information about COVID-19, check the CDC website.
  • An inherent risk of exposure to COVID-19 exists in any public space where people are present. We cannot guarantee that you will not be exposed to COVID-19 during your visit to Methodist University or the Gallery. Those visiting the Gallery do so at their own risk of such exposure.
